We enter a season of transition.

Hot steamy cools, then crisps. Nights get a tiny bit longer, but day still prevails.

The leaves begin to turn, a slow build in late August and September--reddish maples, yellowing birch, starting in the swamps and edges. Which in another month will rapidly increase into a grand finale kaleidoscope of colors that pop and fade.

Harvest season is here! Time to make those remedies, dry and preserve herbs, and stock the shelves to brighten the colder months and enhance our resistance. Fruit ripens: elderberries, autumn olives, apples, hawthorn. Teas gradually become warmer, spicier. Summer is so fleeting here in the North. There is sadness and joy in the change of seasons, to something more inward, perhaps more restful. But, right now, we live on the edge of summer and autumn, hot and cold, Yang and Yin.

And, truly, this is one of the most beautiful times of year.

What I'm Up To

Personal Updates: It's still a juggle of life/house and work and not enough down time, but things are slowly leveling out, reclaiming my weekends soooon. The classroom reconstruction is shaping up beautifully -- it will hopefully be done this weekend -- yay! (Still months of renovation to totally reconstruct the in-laws' room below.) Health wise I'm doing pretty well -- that last covid infection was mild/moderate but nonetheless kicked my tush. The lingering fatigue and heart flutters (surely not helped by all the house and work stress) are finally starting to stabilize with time and herbs. Grateful to the Sharing Yoga teachers, my holy basil-lemon balm tea, short pre-bed book sessions (loving Song of Achilles right now), and deck dinners when I'm not busy teaching the night away.

Book News: I'm still working on some 1st round edits for book #4. This is a huge weight over my head/task list, but grateful for the extension from the publishers, and really loving how it's coming out! But I was apparently incorrectly assumed the release date - it's NOT releasing spring 2025 but actually slated for November 2025. My bad! Once it's available for preorder (likely next summer/fall), I'll officially share the topic and title. Meanwhile, the release of the Herbal Remedies for Sleep book has been a success this year, and we'll be wrapping up the very last class in the free-to-book-owners Sleep Mini Course in early September. All the recordings will be available with lifetime access for registrants/book owners.

Class News: I'm on the cusp of whether or not the Beyond the Home Herbalist Series has enough registrations to start this September or postpone til next year and will be deciding that this week. I'm also starting to brain storm and sketch out next year's series teaching schedule (maybe an in-person Beyond summer series? Maybe a live streamed advanced module focused on health concerns/advanced conditions? Maybe only ONE weeknight of teaching instead of 2-4 each week and almost minimal conferences or community classes)... stay tuned for 2025! I will likely do all three series and one of them in summer in person next year. But, seriously, if you want to take the Beyond series live stream this fall, register NOW or you'll have to wait til next year.

Elderberry to Prep for Winter

Elderberries are also ripening in late August/early September here in New Hampshire! These are a favorite for immune health and a short harvest window between "not quite ripe yet" and "oh dang, the birds at them all".
